My world was dark and filled with pain. Loneliness gnawed at my soul. I found solace in a bottle. Music was my only refuge . . . until I met her. She was a dark Gothic goddess in thigh-high leather boots. She brought light into my life and showed me what it was like to be loved. But could she handle the demons that haunted me . . . and the vices that kept them at bay? This is the one everyone’s been waiting for. This is Damien and Alyssa’s story. Delve into the mind of Immortal Angel’s brooding, hardcore bassist with a troubled past. This book is a stand-alone, but reading books one and two in the series is suggested.

4 out of 5 (very good)

This is book three in the Radical Rock Stars series, but you don't need to have read books one and two before this one. This is Damien and Alyssa's story. Damien and Alyssa have been together several years when the first two books are set, and this is set mostly in the past, telling of their journey to get to the point that the band, Immortal Angel, are getting ready for the third leg of their world tour. Damien. Oh, Damien. His childhood was miserable, and held no love. His mother (and I use the term very loosely!) made it quite clear that her life was ruined because of Damien and he suffered every day because of it. He pulled himself up, got a job, and is playing bass with Angel, Jimmy and the lead guitarist before Tommy (but he plays no part here, other than being mentioned a couple of times and I forget his name!) as Immortal Angel find their feet in and around New York. Alyssa starts as the new piercer at the tattoo shop Damien works, and he knows, right from the start, she is gonna rock his world. What isn't clear to Alyssa, though, is the secret Damien is hiding, even from his band members, an addiction that goes back to when he was 14 years old. And this is what pushes Alyssa away and causes Damien to finally, finally admit, he cannot live with out Alyssa and he needs some help. This book doesn't pack the same punch as The Prince of Punk Rock, but it packs a DIFFERENT punch. Damien's upbringing and spiral downwards is heart breaking to read. His climb back up is cheering to read though, and Ms Galicki pulls this tale off beautifully. Told from both Damien and Alyssa's POV, we get it all from them both. It does carry some difficult topics, child abuse, drug/alcohol addiction. It does make for some difficult reading, at times. But it also carries a HEA for Damien and Alyssa, and a very nice lead into Jimmy and Audra's story, which I have next to read. 4.5 stars
