"You have broken your world in your desire to see what lies beneath. What you bring to this table is shaped by your tongue, and you must guard it like a tiny pearl hidden amidst the graceless teeth in your mouth, disguise it like symbols tattooed in the folds of your fingers, as you hold your hand up to the light and trace your prints on the sky to mark the ways in and out. What landmarks have you dreamed? Will you sow with curses? With tears? Will there be a bitter harvest and blood red winter? Or can you hold the tiny doves gently in your hand and call them by their true names emptied of the arrogant and the driven... This place beneath, bought with pain and the highest price of letting go, shivers on a razors edge.. Will you be an inhabitant or an infestation? Do you have the tenacity the strength the right to see yourself safely through?..."

Independent Reviewer for Archaeolibrarian - I Dig Good Books!

How do you begin to describe something that reaches into every crevice, dark or light and it shines on it a light so bright you ALMOST have to look away, but can't? Why you might well ask? Jaye Tomas shines the torch into every one of us and pulls out the guts of "What Lies Beneath" the facade we all choose to cover ourselves in. This is not all sweetness and light, nor darkness and gloom but it's real, hit you right there in the heart REAL!!

It brought tears to my eyes, and fairytales to life. The Dead dance on has remarkable imagery, and the Raven King felt close enough to touch, so lost was I. This is just one of many brilliant works. If you haven't read poetry, and think it's all hearts and flowers and not human or personal enough, this is where you start. As she already has two previous works, you need to check her out. This lady is an artist and a storyteller.*

Jaye Tomas has "scribbled" all her life but found her audience growing hugely after she created her Chimera Poetry blog. Her first Book, 'Nocturnes', was very well received and she has just released 'Carnevale' to gratifying acclaim. Jaye loves all things bookish and her reading tastes are extensive: Tolkien, Lovecraft, Gaiman, Valente, Harkness, Plath, Ellison, Christie, Aaronovitch, Yeats, Blake, King, Barker, Straub, Lopez, Maugham, Rimbaud, Ness, Eddings, Funke, Taylor, Kipling, Chaucer, Morgenstern .....to name a very few. Originally from Chicago, she is currently residing in the UK but has begun to cast her eyes in other directions. "The beauty of the story, she says, is in the journey, not the arrival."
