Working for a cranky, old hermit in an isolated house sounds like Ruby’s idea of heaven but her boss isn't quite what she expects. Tex is a fugitive from the rock and roll world – a tragedy abruptly halted his career. No one knows why, no one knows where he is. The two of them try to live in the same house without ever seeing each other until Tex screws up, endangering their lives and forcing them to live in close quarters. Suddenly, the idea of human contact seems more appealing, if only with each other. The sanctuary they have built is enough for Ruby but the outside world encroaches. The man she's grown to love is Tex the hermit, not Tex the rock star. Their fledgling love can’t shine brighter than the rock dream but can Ruby bear to let him go?

4 out of 5 (very good)

Ruby and Tex are similar creatures – both hiding from the outside world and hoping never to be recognized. They try to blend in with the world and never want to stand out. They are homebodies and will do anything possible to not have to leave home! Ruby was the perfect person to become Tex’s maid. They could exist in his house without much friction between the two. What happens when tragedy strikes, close to home? Will Tex want to keep Ruby on as his house keeper? Is Tex strong enough to face his demons? This book was a great read. It seemed to flow quite well together and was a quick read. The story line kept you reading, to find out how things were going to work out between Tex and Ruby. The author did a great job with her description which made it easy to picture the scenery in the book. The characters though could have used a bit more description though. It felt like there was something missing in the story though. I can’t quite put my finger on what that was or maybe it ended too quickly. It felt like we were just starting to peel the layers back between Tex and Ruby and the book was over. I guess we will have to wait for book two to read more, hopefully their story carries over! I enjoyed this story otherwise. It kept me reading and I read it in almost one sitting. I would recommend the book if you’re looking for a quick, sweet, interesting read.

Candy J. Starr used to be a band manager until she realised that the band she managed was so lacking in charisma that they actually sucked the charisma out of any room they played. “Screw you,” she said, leaving them to wallow in obscurity – totally forgetting that they owed her big bucks for video equipment hire. Candy has filmed and interviewed some big names in the rock business, and a lot of small ones. She’s seen the dirty little secrets that go on in the back rooms of band venues. She’s seen the ugly side of rock and the very pretty one. But, of course, everything she writes is fiction.
