“What are you doing, Frank?”

His lips curved into a cocky grin. “I’m preparing to make love to my wife. A woman I care about more than she knows. Or is afraid to admit.”

Her pulse raced at his words, even as her core clenched, watching him strip down and fling his garments about. She couldn’t have managed a word if her life depended upon it.

And Frank no doubt knew exactly what the sight of his muscular, naked body did to her senses, because his soft laugh was like a warm breath across her heated skin. “If you want to keep that pretty nightgown of yours in one piece, darlin’, I suggest you take it off.”

Catherine glanced down at the hideous flannel she wore, then back up at her husband. How had she lost control of this situation?

“Time’s up,” he said gently, moving to the bed. He reached for the hem of her nightgown and tugged it over her head, her arms flowing up as if with a will of their own while he bared her completely.

Rough around the edges meets stubborn

While not outright admitting it, Frank Carter is envious of the marriage and love his brother found. When he considers the same possibility for him, only one woman comes to mind—former song bird Catherine Purdue. The two have an inwardly love and outwardly hate relationship. Her stubbornness and his ability to put his foot in his mouth make for a fun story.

I am enjoying this series and look forward to its continuation. Cici hits the mark on making all the characters challenges and actions believable, along with the authenticity of the era, another homerun. The minor characters are perfect. Frank’s rough around the edges personality is oh, so wonderful, making me want to climb on the back of his horse and ride off into the sunset with him.

If you enjoy American Historical Western (Historical Western Romance), this is series is a must read!

Enthralling… Irresistible… and downright Swoonworthy

Talk about the need to binge read! In The Substitute Wife, Little Creede Brides, Book 1, Harrison Creede left Jenny, his intended, in his hometown to make something of the family silver mines. Four years later, he is eagerly expecting Jenny and their future life together. When Retta, Jenny’s sister arrives instead, he is shocked by Jenny’s request.

The characters are authentic and memorable. I enjoyed how Harrison’s emotions changed as the story unfolds with his relationship with Jenny and her daughter Addie growing. His difficulty letting Jenny go made my heart ache for him, as it was obvious he is destined to love Rhetta. I applaud their resolve to make things work and build trust, no matter how difficult their circumstances. It wasn’t an easy road for them, and that makes the book even better!

Ms. Cordelia brings realism to not only the characters but the setting and way of life in the old West. I’m anxiously awaiting the next book in the series – The Dance Hall Wife – which I have an idea of whose hearts are involved. If you enjoy historical western romance, then this series is for you!
