An insightful and emotional read that had me in tears a fair few times. My heart ached for Amber. From being a freshman in high school that felt the need to have 'rules' to protect herself.....to being a girl in her senior year, afraid to break the rules and get attached.
This is well written and gives an inside view of the difficulties that can arise when families join. It highlights the emotional turmoil that can develop and how essential friends are.
Rules we're meant to break is a beautiful, window into a sensitive situation that warms the heart. I think Buffy the dog may actually have stolen my heart, she's Amber's best friend who can charm anyone and offers nothing but love.
Definitely a book that needs tissues and chocolate!
