The first rule of warfare - don’t fall in love with your enemy. Loyal to a fault, shape-shifting Lemurian warrior Saar will do anything for his king and sports a horrific scar across his face to prove it. Shunned by females of his own kind due to his gruesome features, he swore off intimate relationships long ago. When he rescues his sworn enemy from certain death, he must decide between his loyalty to his best friend or the female that has clawed her way into his heart. Bear shape-shifter Kaelyn keeps males at arm’s length as those she loves tend to die. To complicate matters, she now works for the enemy she once despised. When she encounters the sexy male warrior she fought on the battlefield, she’s drawn to him for all the wrong reasons and must fight her desire for him if either is to survive.

4 out of 5 (very good)

Book four in the series and it helps greatly to have read books one to three first. Not totally necessary but it will give you a much better picture of what's happening on Earth and what's happening with the gods who are playing with the lives of everyone on Earth, Zedron and Alora. Saar is Noeh's second in command and his locality to his king is rock solid. That is, until he finds himself tasked with killing the enemy Ursus, Kaelyn. There is something bigger going on that neither of them can work out, and Saar betrays his king and his people to set Kaelyn free. Saar has a scar on his face, very visible but he finds that when Kaelyn looks at him, she doesn't see it, she sees HIM. That she is their enemy seems not to matter to either of them but what I particularly enjoyed about their tale was being made to wait. Wait for the time when they finally come together. Cos let me tell ya, at one point, I wasn't even sure they would come together, we're made to wait that long, way over 70% of the book!! Loved that!! I'm still not sure which way the gods are gonna go, they continue to surprise me. Alora finds proof that Zedron cheated, and she uses it, not to sanction Zedron, but to set free his slave, her friend. I'm also left wondering about the doctor who tended Kaelyn, Gaetan. He has a say here and it throws up all manner of questions about him I want answering. I have a feeling he is going to get far worse before he finds his love. It does get a little gross, what with the fighting Gossum and Mauree. Really gross! Cringe-worthy, but well written stuff! Not quite enjoyable as book two, that remains a clear favourite, but a Solid 4 stars

After finishing a rewarding career in finance and accounting, it was time for award-winning author Rosalie Redd to put away the spreadsheets and take out the word processor. She pens paranormal, science fiction, and fantasy romance in her office cave located in Oregon, where rain is just another excuse to keep writing.
